Olympus TG-1 Review

When I was searching the web via google more than a year ago, I came across this camera and I was impressed by the Olympus TG-1 media demonstrations. Honestly I am biased towards Olympus, specially with their Tough Series of digicams because they have a great reputation and for me the tough series has the perfect balance between durability, image quality and price.

Olympus TG-1

The TG-1 is just perfect for my outdoor life

The Olympus TG-1 did not disappoint. I brought it along with me when we did our Mount Amuyao Traverse in July 2012. It was the perfect testing ground. ย Rain, mud and a lot of drops were the first things my Olympus TG-1 experienced in this epic trek.

I won’t discuss much on IQ here. Just view the photos hereย (and my other photos after Amuyao) and judge. For me IQ is above average, just what I need in the great outdoors.

Video is above average. Plugging it on my HD TV, the images are bright and sharp. Audio is above average. It works better than most digital video cameras with HD resolution out there.

Durability, I give it a 4.5 stars out of 5. Yes that’s how durable the Olympus TG-1 is. My only wish is that the OLED screen has gorilla or dragon trail glass with more scratch resistance ย ๐Ÿ˜›

Water resistance/proofing, I’d give it a 5 stars out of 5. I never had problems with it underwater, salt or fresh may it be. It is just awesome. Just don’t bring it deeper than what is recommended ok? Using it in the rain is just perfect, just shoot and shoot and shoot ๐Ÿ™‚

Battery life, I give it 4 stars out of 5. It is great really. 3 days of average use is enough but I wish it had more juice that can last for a week haha

Usability, I can’t rate. I’m used to using Olympus cameras so it was a no-nonsense experience for me. You may have a bit of adjustment to make if you are not used to Olympus UI.

Overall it’s the perfect camera for my outdoor life and I’m looking forward for more adventures with my TG-1 ๐Ÿ™‚

By the way Olympus has released the TG-2 and I’ve yet to test it.
